The whole of North Rhine-Westphalia is showcasing its cultural side: on ‘Third Places Day’, extraordinary cultural venues are opening their doors and warmly inviting you to visit! Lovingly restored pubs, romantic moated castles, historic railway stations or modern community spaces in former shop premises – these ‘Third Places’ are as diverse as the people who bring them to life. Look forward to a colourful day full of encounters, creativity and hands-on activities – for young and old alike, for the curious and those who love to explore.

Experience a captivating city tour with Ullerike, where you will not only get to know historic buildings and idyllic places, but also hear interesting anecdotes and stories. Ideal for young and old, we offer a varied tour that combines knowledge with fun. Why do fish have to climb stairs? Where do we find the 5 lions and why is there a big tree in the town hall? Look forward to many interesting and amusing stories for all age groups.

The walk is suitable for both pushchairs and walking frames.

Erich Kästner not only wrote children's books, but was also a critical observer in difficult times. This thoughtful, sarcastic and humorous poet will be the focus of the evening. His texts leave us smiling, sometimes amused, sometimes astonished, sometimes shocked. The texts are topical, even half a century after Kästner's death. He was one of the first authors whose books were burnt by the National Socialists.

"Travelling is the joy of life" is how Angelika Glaub describes how she draws inspiration for her art. As a painter who likes to experiment, she works, depending on the subject, in the auqarelle wash technique, in acrylic on canvas, collages or monotypes based on gelatin printing. Nicolaus Bornhorn will be exhibiting his photographic impressions of Lisbon and Portugal. Both run a gallery in Wilhelmshaven

Helen Stegemann, known for her unmistakable, clear and expressive voice from numerous Symphonic Rock Nights, sings her way into everyone's hearts with her large repertoire. Her congenial guitarist Peter Müller from Münster picks up on her every musical emotion and accompanies her songs with sensitivity and empathy and technical perfection. The duo met at a jazz workshop more than ten years ago and interpret the songs in their own extraordinary musical way. The winner of "Jugend musiziert 2016" captivates with her unique voice.

Hofrichter and Rentmeister Casper Kestering shares with you stories and facts from everyday life, from the founding of the first brand cooperatives around 700 years after Christ, right into the 20th century: About the beginning of a trade route, border workers in search of money and happiness, about life as a student who had to move from Steinfurt to the Netherlands - and of course about royal Dutch visits to Steinfurt Castle!

More than 30 members of the Kunstverein Steinfurt will be thinking about the theme of KONTRASTE and realising it in their own individual way and technique. It will be exciting to see the wide range of creativity.

For the St. Nicholas market in Burgsteinfurt on 4 May and 6 December 2026, there will also be an art market in the Huck-Beifang-Haus "Kunst & Krempel", where not only works of art will be sold, but also other beautiful things. There will also be punch and snacks.
