Martin Hannemann reads Erich Kästner
A musical storytelling evening with jazz from Münster
Huck Beifang House
Kunstverein Steinfurt e.V., Hahnenstr. 8, 48565 Steinfurt

Erich Kästner not only wrote children's books, but was also a critical observer in difficult times. This thoughtful, sarcastic and humorous poet will be the focus of the evening. His texts leave us smiling, sometimes amused, sometimes astonished, sometimes shocked. The texts are topical, even half a century after Kästner's death. He was one of the first authors whose books were burnt by the National Socialists.

The musicians of the jazz trio accompany the reading, improvising with jazz standards and their own compositions. Lothar Wantia on percussion and drums, Joffrey Bondzio on double bass and Niclas Floer on piano

Historic guided tour of the old town of Burgsteinfurt
Monument to Count Arnold

The former market place was located at the entrance to the moated castle (1129), today still the residence of the princely family of Bentheim and Steinfurt. Today's old town of Burgsteinfurt developed from this core. The simpler half-timbered houses of the peasants, the larger ones of the merchants, but above all the splendid stone houses of the count's officials are examples of medieval architecture worth seeing. The centre of the historic town centre is the town hall (1561), with its finely designed gable. Burgsteinfurt's market square reflects two epochs in the town's history, as probably nowhere else in the Münsterland. The time of urban unfreedom under the count of Burgsteinfurt, who manifested his power in the construction of the wine house at Markt 19; on the other hand, the self-confidence of the aspiring bourgeoisie, which manifests itself in the show gable of the old town hall.

Monument to Count Arnold

Hofrichter and Rentmeister Casper Kestering shares with you stories and facts from everyday life, from the founding of the first brand cooperatives around 700 years after Christ, right into the 20th century: About the beginning of a trade route, border workers in search of money and happiness, about life as a student who had to move from Steinfurt to the Netherlands - and of course about royal Dutch visits to Steinfurt Castle!
